McCaul that made me aware of the work of himself, Fox, Huntington, and others in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, and of Fox's most recent (2001) empirical formulas, which are In fact, it was a recent personal communication from Mr. Also in 1973, Earles McCaul published an article in the November issue of Hot Rod magazine titled Drag Strip Dyno. Fox described this basis in 1973 in an article in The American Journal of Physics (see the References section at the end of this web page). Fox, who has been the president and CEO of Fox Racing USA in Morgan Hill, CA (maker of motorcross, BMX, and mountain bike apparel), determined the theoretical basis for Huntington's formula. In 1964, University of Santa Clara, California Physics Professor Geoffrey T. It represented many hours of work and tedious slide rule calculations over a period of 10 years." "Anyway, I know I was the first to derive ths type of equation, based on true net HP. However, there was more scatter in the plotted points here, due to wider variations in traction between cars. That one is a constant of 6.29 times the cube root of the lbs.-per-HP ratio. "Incidentally, I did the same thing with a formula for quarter-mile e.t. "Note that I only tested cars with trap speeds between 70 and 115 mph. And actually there was amazing correlation. The above formula is the average line through the plotted points. Using the gross weight of the car and the tested true clutch HP, the lbs-per-HP ratio was derived. (The gear effect was compensated by using a factor to allow for engine and drive line rotating inertia.) Anyway, the car was tested on a quarter-mile to accurately determine the terminal speed at the end of the quarter. What I would do is test the car with an accelerometer - and several complex equations - to determine the true peak HP delivered at the clutch under accelerating conditions, usually in a gear giving the HP peak between 60 and 90 mph, to make it easier to get consistent accelerometer readings. It was the result of 40 or 50 road and strip tests of many different cars. The constant is 224 not 225, and MPH is calculated by dividing 224 by the cube root of the lbs.-per-HP ratio. That explanation is reproduced below with some minor editing. "weight" is the the total weight of the vehicle (with driver) in pounds.Įarles McCaul fowarded to me a letter sent to him from Roger Huntington (August 1976), in which Huntington explains how he derived his empirical formula."hp" is the peak engine horsepower output at the clutch (net power), and."224" is the empirically determined coefficient that includes the necessary unit conversion factors,."MPH" is the terminal speed (trap speed),.Huntington also determined a formula for 1/4-mile elapsed time. Huntington presented his graph for predicting 1/4-mile terminal speed in an article titled Horsepower at the Drag Strip, pages 50-53 in the December 1958 issue of Rod & Custom magazine (thanks go to Earles McCaul for this information). In the 1950s, the late Roger Huntington (please see ), author of numerous books and magazine articles, was perhaps the first engineer and automotive enthusiast to empirically determine mathematical relationships between a vehicle's performance in a 1/4-mile drag race and a vehicle's power and weight. hp & wgt Calculators for 1/4-Mile ET & MPH vs. Pace is often expressed as ‘# minute mile’ or ‘# minute kilometer’.Stealth 316 - Formulas for 1/4 mile ET & mph vs. Pace is the number of minutes and/or seconds is takes to walk, run, etc. Pace: Your pace in minutes and seconds (or just minutes accurate to 2 decimal places). Rega turntable9/20/2023 So, if you’ve had any internet-related anxiety about the speed of the RP10, forget about it. In our experience, this just hasn’t been the case in the last 15 years or so, and the RP10 keeps them batting a thousand. It’s still somewhat of an urban legend that Rega tables run “a bit fast” to provide a zippier sound. Listening to the P9 and RP10 side by side easily shows the additional resolution present in the new table.Ī speed check was the first test on our list, and utilizing the Feickert iPad app showed the RP10 to be dead-on for both 33 and 45 rpm speeds. So as much as we wanted this to be a standalone review, the question on the tip of everyone’s tongue – and on our Facebook inbox – has been, “How does the RP10 stack up to the P9?” As the title of this review suggests, it is an evolutionary move. Combined with a set-and-forget ethos, there’s no wonder the P9 has won the hearts (and ears) of so many music lovers that just want a fabulous turntable without the setup anxiety. The former flagship P9 has always featured the liveliness that their tables have always been known for, with additional heft in the low frequencies. Gandy’s approach has always worked well, but in the past, the P3 and variations have always been accused of being somewhat lightweight in the lower register. For those of you that aren’t familiar, the tonearm on the earlier P3 and P9 shared the same basic casting, and now the new RP10 uses a highly refined version of the new casting for the RP3 (and is secured with the same red tape Rega has used for decades), yet the new RB2000 is completely handmade and finished to the highest of tolerances, as was the RB1000.Īccording to Rega, the RB2000 arm “is designed to have a minimum of mechanical joints while using the stiffest materials possible in all areas.” Like its predecessor, the bearings are hand fitted and of highest quality, all handpicked for tolerance before insertion into the arm.Ī new twist on the Rega platform, beginning with the RP3, is the mechanical brace: magnesium in the RP10, going between the tonearm mount and the turntable bearing, assuring maximum rigidity between these critical areas, while taking advantage of the new, skeletal plinth (further refined from the RP8 design) having seven times less mass than the original Planar 3.Īn ex-automotive engineer, Rega principal Roy Gandy has always taken the advantage that less mass means more energy transferred from the record groove to the stylus tip, an opposite philosophy of the “more mass is better” approach embraced by some other manufacturers. The platter, drive mechanism, tonearm and power supply are all highly evolved versions of the basic Rega turntable. Someone once said that an elephant is only a mouse built to military specifications, and on one level the same could be said for the P9 – you could think of it as a fully geeked-out P3. For the record, my current reference is a P9 with Apheta cartridge, and it has served me well for some time now. Words like pace and timing weren’t even part of our vocabulary back then, but there was a ton of inner detail coming through those Magnepan MGII speakers that wasn’t there the day before, and to this day, both of us have always owned at least one Rega turntable. He solemnly replied, “I’m that idiot!” and we took that little British table back to his listening room and were subsequently blown away, being Technics SL-1200 guys at that moment in time, thinking there couldn’t possibly be anything better than direct drive. As they lifted a bright, fluorescent green table out, the sales guy quipped, “What idiot would buy a turntable in this color?” Little did he know that’s been publisher Dorgay’s favorite color since age 6. Our publisher has been a Rega fan since the fateful day in the mid-’80s when we happened by our local dealer (Audio Emporium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) to find them opening a shipment of Planar 3 turntables.

Poopity scoop9/19/2023 After all, toddlers do have to “lift themselves up on their feet” to “get on the action of walking.” Maybe West does not think his audience is sophisticated enough to understand complicated words, so he resorts to vocabulary he hears his children saying around the house. West is seemingly making a statement about his opinion of Trap Rap.īut is he really making fun of just Trap Rap? Perhaps he is just trying to see how much money he can make off his audience by writing such a simple song. The last word of the whole song is “poop.” This word, popular among second graders, is the last word of a song heard by more than 7 million people. “ Poopy-di scoop Scoop-diddy-whoop Whoop-di-scoop-di-poop Poop-di-scoopty Scoopty-whoop” are some of the most memorable lines at the end of “Lift Yourself,”and appear to show that West is not taking this song seriously at all. With this style of rap growing in popularity, West decided to act. Today, however, mainstream rap songs often display no message, and are actually about a rapper’s lifestyle and how much fun it is to be a pop star. Rap has grown in prominence over the years, and when it began, its words carried a lot of meaning and delivered powerful messages to audiences. Trap Rap, also known as Trap Music, is the category many rappers fall into today, and it features a series of repeated words that lay over a really catchy beat. He sees all of this attention as the perfect opportunity to make his voice heard, and to take a stab at mainstream rap music, most specifically “Trap Rap.” “Lift Yourself” was streamed approximately 7.2 million times in the first week after it was released on West’s website. West does not depend on these new songs to make a living, but now focuses on using his massive following to send a message. So why would West create such a song that would embarrass any other mainstream artist?Īccording to GoBankingRates, West’s net worth is 160 million dollars, which is more than enough to live on and retire. This repetition and the somewhat cheesy demands to “lift yourself” make it seem like no time or energy was put into the music. The words “ Lift yourself up on your feet, let’s get it on,” and other variations to the words such as “lift yourself” or just simply “lift,” are repeated throughout the entire song, all while an uplifting beat is playing in the background. Although he has done things that might make you despise him, such as interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMA’s or appearing on the Ellen Show (which is a whole other article in itself ), his genius is still shown through his lyrics. Here is the “scoopity” on Kanye’s new song.įorget, for a moment, that West wrote this song. Kanye West, one of today’s most controversial musicians, has released his new song “Lift Yourself.” Although seemingly immature on the surface, this song actually conveys a message about modern music and the future of rap.

For example, in the calibre E-book viewer, you use the Show Table of Contents button to see this ToC. This Table of Contents is part of the main document flow and can be styled however you like. One is the traditional Table of Contents, like the ToC you find in paper books. The first thing to realize is that most e-books have two tables of contents. What’s the deal with Table of Contents in MOBI files? ¶ This is because the HTML to ZIP plugin automatically converts the HTML files to a standard encoding (UTF-8). Note that when converting HTML files, leave the input encoding setting mentioned above blank. A common encoding for many files from the web is cp1252 and I would suggest you try that first. HTML files from different sources often have different encodings, so you may have to change this setting repeatedly. Now when you add HTML files to calibre they will be correctly processed. To do this go to Preferences → Advanced → Plugins → File type and customize the HTML to ZIP plugin, telling it what encoding your HTML files are in. When adding HTML files to calibre, you may need to tell calibre what encoding the files are in. The command-line tools have an ebook-convert-txt-input -input-encoding option. Filemail pirated movie9/19/2023 Using a VPN is the simplest way to achieve this. The Pirate Bay’s pros and cons demonstrate that the optimum result is to protect anonymity while still having access to the required material. When you venture into risky terrain, this program will act as a shield and is your first line of defense. Since everyone online can see your IP address, your ISP, other users from the shared pool, and cyber criminals could all have access to your private data.Ĭonsidering all the risks that may be found on websites, getting a solid VPN subscription is the first step to safer torrenting. Additionally, you could unintentionally download spyware or a virus that infects your device. Everything relies on how your nation has outlined copyright regulations. You risk obtaining DMCA notices, incurring a hefty fee, receiving a subpoena, or even serving time in jail. Using a VPN to Minimize the Risks of TorrentingĪlthough file sharing technology is efficient, it has several possible risks. It is important to note that downloading copyrighted material without permission is illegal in many countries, and can result in fines or other penalties. Some popular torrent trackers include The Pirate Bay and 1337x. Torrent trackers play a crucial role in the BitTorrent protocol, as they help to coordinate the sharing of files between clients and ensure that the files are available for download. The client can then connect to these other clients and download the file or pieces of the file from them. When a client wants to download a file, it sends a request to the tracker, which responds with a list of other clients that have the file or pieces of the file. The tracker maintains a list of the clients that are currently connected to the network, along with information about the files they are sharing and downloading.
